Katrin Derreumaux Dressage

Katrin is creative in her approach and makes dressage fun, stress free and very positive even at the highest level. Cross training is important in Katrin's approach. All horses are hacked out regularly and work over ground poles, and even small jumps when appropriate.  Katrin specializes teaching Riders how their bodies (equitation) can both positively and negatively influence the horse. She has a real horse sense and works especially well with horses who's temperament may not fit into the 'Normal training Box', this includes very feisty mares of course. She finds inspiration in helping horses and riders reach their goals in a harmonious and positive manner whether this be in the show ring or at home.

 Dressage Training

Katrin Derreumaux - Owner/Head Trainer KD Dressage and the Barn Manager at Liberty Farms Equestrian Center

Katrin is dedicated to holistic horse care and treats each horse as an individual, whether it be in training, on the ground, or regarding health and/or feeding. Safety and the well being of each horse come first and foremost for Katrin, regardless of the situation.

Currently she trains with Jennifer Marchand, as well as clinicians that travel to Liberty farms.  She has many unique horses in training, and is actively competing in Region 8 during the 2018 show season. She has a number of promising young horses in training and some students joining her for this season's shows.

Katrin grew up in Chester County PA where she began riding at a very young age. As a teenager she participated in 4H, volunteered at a therapeutic riding program and was a working student/assistant barn manager for Gail O’Neil. Katrin trained her first horse, a thoroughbred mare, from a green horse to 4th level. They were a beautiful match and earned many youth high point and championship awards in USDF Region1.  During high school, she showed at Region 1 Junior Team Championships, D4K, and Drill team exhibitions including Dressage at Devon.
Post high school, Katrin schooled and started young horses for Jeanne McDonald, an FEI “I” and USEF “S” dressage judge, a USDF/USEF Dressage Sport Horse Judge and a USDF Bronze, Silver, and Gold medalist at Turning Point Farm in PA. This led her to became a working student for Classical Dressage trainer and Grand Prix Competitor Lorinda Lende at Black Swan Farm in West Chester PA , where she trained through Grand Prix and helped manage the farm.
Katrin also spent many years studying and working as a social worker, especially with adults with developmental disabilities. Her work took her to Camphill USA and even as far as India for 3 years. Her experiences as a social worker have largely shaped her into the trainer and instructor she is today. Patience and the ability to listen and observe are qualities Katrin feels are at the core of any healthy relationship, especially one with Horses.
